Barton women’s volleyball sweeps rival Mount Olive, 3-0, on Senior Day

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (10-12, 7-8) celebrated Senior Day in style with a 3-0 victory over rival Mount Olive (8-14, 4-10) Saturday afternoon at Wilson Gymnasium.  The Bulldogs honored their lone senior – middle blocker Kelsey Riquelme (Lutz, Fla.) – prior to the contest.

The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-19, 25-14 and 25-11 and swept the season series from the Trojans.

Barton was led by junior outside hitter Kaytlin Elkins (Hope Mills, N.C.) and freshman outside hitter Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) with 11 kills and 11 digs each.  Elkins leads the team with 315 kills and ranks fourth all-time in school history (1,284).

Barton also received 17 assists, nine digs and five kills from sophomore setter Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) and the Bulldogs held Mount Olive to a 0.037 hitting percentage while tallying nine blocks as a team.  The Trojans were led by Starr Sergent (Millani, Hawaii) with six kills in the losing effort.

Barton will wrap up the regular season with a match against Chowan next Saturday in Murfreesboro, N.C., beginning at 1:00 p.m.  Mount Olive plays at Converse next Friday beginning at 7:00 p.m.
