Barton women’s volleyball falls to UNC Pembroke, sees winning streak end

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (7-7) suffered a 3-0 loss to UNC Pembroke (10-13) Tuesday evening in a non-conference regional contest at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.

The Braves won by scores of 25-20, 30-28 and 25-17 over the Bulldogs, who saw their three-match winning streak come to an end.

UNC Pembroke was led by Raven Oates (Huntsville, Texas) with 12 kills while Brianna Warren (Indian Trail, N.C.) totaled 10 kills and the Braves finished with eight service aces in the victory.

For Barton, freshman outside hitter Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) led the way with a match-high 20 kills in addition to 15 digs despite the loss.  Sophomore setter Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) added a double-double as well – 13 assists and 12 digs – but the Bulldogs hit just 0.183 for the match in the setback.  Gambill, the reigning Conference Carolinas Player of the Week, ranks second on the team in kills (183) and first in assists with 158.

Barton returns to Conference Carolinas play on Friday with its first league road match against Limestone at the Timken Center beginning at 7:00 p.m., while UNC Pembroke travels to Saint Augustine, Fla., to take on Flagler on Friday at 7:00 p.m., as well.
