WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (4-6, 1-3) couldn't hold a two-set advantage in a 3-2 setback to Converse (5-14, 2-3) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas match at Beddingfield High School. The Valkyries won by scores of 17-25, 23-25, 25-12, 25-21 and 15-8 for their second straight victory.
Converse was led by Brittany Tepedino (Greenville, S.C.) with a match-high 22 kills to go along with 18 digs while Lauren Tharrington (Cary, N.C.) added 35 assists and nine digs and the Valkyries totaled 13 blocks as a team in the triumph.
Barton was led by junior outside hitter Kaytlin Elkins (Hope Mills, N.C.) with 18 kills and 14 digs while freshman outside hitter Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) tallied a double-double – 14 kills and 14 digs – as well but the Bulldogs hit just .101 for the match in suffering their third straight loss. Barton sophomore setter Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) finished with five kills, 23 assists and 19 digs despite the setback. Elkins leads the squad with 177 kills so far this season.
Barton looks to bounce back on Wednesday when the Bulldogs host Chowan at 7:00 p.m., at Ralph L. Fike High School in a league contest while Converse takes on North Greenville next Friday on the road beginning at 7:00 p.m.
