BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (10-5-1, 8-3) wrapped up Conference Carolinas regular season play with a 2-1 victory over Lees-McRae (1-13-1, 1-9-1) Saturday afternoon at Tate Field.
Barton junior forward Syaani Harris (Ashland, Ohio) broke a one-all tie with the match-winner at the 71:31 mark of the second half – her team-leading sixth goal of the year – as the Bulldogs guaranteed themselves a home match in the quarterfinal round of the 2019 league tournament.
Barton sophomore midfielder Brenna Keegan (Huntley, Ill.) opened the scoring in the 34th minute with her fourth goal of the season while freshman midfielder Kassie Krul (Rockport, Maine) assisted on both scores for the Bulldogs. Barton also held a 26-8 advantage in shots taken in winning its second straight contest.
In goal, Barton sophomore Kristin Davis (Willow Springs, N.C.) earned the victory after making four saves while Lees-McRae's Hope Sanborn (Monroe, N.C.) made 15 stops but took the loss. Lauren Paulsen (Westminster, Md.) scored for the Bobcats.
Barton steps out of conference play to take on Shaw on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., in Raleigh, N.C., while Lees-McRae was playing its final regular season match of the year.
