
WINGATE, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (8-5-1) suffered a 4-0 setback on the road to Wingate (9-3-1) Wednesday evening in a non-conference regional match at Pride Park.
The Bulldogs' Kaitlyn Cox (Archdale, N.C.) tallied a hat trick – including the match-winner just 7:48 into match – to lead Wingate to the win. Cox also assisted on the Bulldogs' other goal by Cat McCollom (Monroe, N.C.) in the 44th minute of the contest.
Wingate held a 30-5 advantage in shots taken while Abbey Frail (Winston-Salem, N.C.) picked up the win in goal after stopping four shots. Barton's goalkeeper, freshman Rachel Cox (Wilson, N.C.), made a dozen saves in the losing effort.
Barton will look to bounce back on Saturday when the Bulldogs host Emmanuel (Ga.) in a Conference Carolinas contest as part of Senior Day beginning at 1:30 p.m., while Wingate hosts Salem International next Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
