WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (8-4-1, 6-3) snapped a two-match losing streak with a 1-0 victory over Erskine (4-6-1, 2-5-1) on Homecoming Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action at Electric Supply Company Field.
Barton freshman midfielder Kassie Krul (Rockport, Maine) scored the lone goal of the match – her fourth of the season – with just four minutes remaining in the contest to finally break the scoreless tie. Krul launched the shot from the center about 25 yards out and over the keeper for the goal. Sophomore midfielder Sarah Kaempfe (Augsburg, GERMANY) was credited with the assist.
Barton held a decisive 31-5 edge in shots taken but the Flying Fleet remained in the contest thanks to its goalkeeper, Cheyanne Fuller (Greenville, S.C.), who stopped 16 shots on the day including a dozen in the first half. Barton freshman Rachel Cox (Wilson, N.C.) earned the shutout win in goal while making a couple of saves.
Barton remains at home to take on Emmanuel (Ga.) in a Conference Carolinas match next Saturday, October 26, beginning at 1:30 p.m., while Erskine hosts Anderson on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
