WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (7-4-1, 5-3) fell to rival and unbeaten Mount Olive (8-0-1, 6-0), 3-1, Wednesday evening in wet and chilly Electric Supply Company Field.
The Trojans broke a one-all halftime tie with a pair of goals after intermission including the match-winner from Kali Schindler (Marlboro, N.Y.) just under two minutes into the second half. Schindler added an assist while Riley Baker (Danvers, Md.) rounded out the scoring in the 79th minute for the Trojans, who remained the lone unbeaten team in league play.
Senior forward Rebekah Beal (Nashville, N.C.) scored her fourth goal of the year to tie the score at one at the 11:03 mark of the first half after one-touching the ball right in front of the net off a pass from junior forward Olivia Bronson (Gaithersburg, Md.). The Bulldogs, however, remained off the board the rest of the way.
Mount Olive held a 15-12 advantage in shots taken while Taylor Lewis (Hamilton, Ohio) earned the victory in goal after stopping three shots while Barton sophomore goalkeeper Kristin Davis (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) made three saves as well but suffered the loss.
Barton will look to snap a two-match losing streak when the Bulldogs host Erskine in a Conference Carolinas contest on Saturday at Electric Supply Company Field beginning at 1:30 p.m. Mount Olive, meanwhile, will host league-foe North Greenville for Senior Day on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
