MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (6-2-1, 4-1) won its fourth straight contest with a 2-0 triumph over Chowan (0-5-2, 0-2-2) Wednesday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas match at Hawks Field.
Barton sophomore midfielder Brenna Keegan (Huntley, Ill.) and sophomore forward Sarah Kaempfe (Augsburg, GERMANY) both scored for the Bulldogs while sophomore Kristin Davis (Wake Forest, N.C.) earned the shutout victory in goal after stopping four shots.
Keegan scored the match-winner – her third of the season – just 16:40 into the contest after finishing off a pass in the upper right ninety of the net courtesy of junior forward Olivia Bronson (Gaithersburg, Md.). Kaempfe rounded out the scoring with 1:20 left as she finished off a deflection of the keeper. The goal was Kaempfe's first of the year.
Chowan's goalkeeper, Lynzie Hulle (Landrum, S.C.), took the loss after registering a pair of saves and the Hawks continue to search for their first win of the year. Barton also held an 11-10 advantage in shots taken and its 12 total points now top the league standings.
Barton next hosts King (Tenn.) in a Conference Carolinas contest on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m., at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex while Chowan hosts Belmont Abbey in a league game on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
