BELMONT, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (2-1-1, 1-0) opened Conference Carolinas play with a key road victory over Belmont Abbey (2-2, 0-1), 2-1, Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Barton senior forward Rebekah Beal (Nashville, N.C.) scored the match-winner – her first goal of the season – in the 53rd minute of the contest as the Bulldogs rallied from a one-goal deficit early in the affair to prevail over the Crusaders.  Barton has trailed in two straight matches but has avoided a defeat in both contests.

Barton junior forward Syaani Harris (Ashland, Va.) tied the score at one with her team-leading third goal of the year in the 30th minute after Belmont Abbey's Allyson Elliott (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) opened the scoring just 6:35 into the match.  Both teams totaled 15 shots on the afternoon.

In goal, Barton freshman Rachel Cox (Wilson, N.C.) stopped four shots to earn the win while Belmont Abbey's Lauryn Harding (Fayetteville, N.C.) suffered the loss.  Harding made five saves on the day.

Barton remains on the road to take on North Greenville in a Conference Carolinas contest on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m., in Tigerville, S.C., while Belmont Abbey hosts Limestone in league action Saturday at 1:00 p.m., as well.
