WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (17-5, 14-3) made it four victories in a row with a dominant win over Lees-McRae (7-18, 4-13), 91-48, Saturday afternoon at Wilson Gymnasium.
Barton senior guard Summer Baer (Fleming Island, Fla.) led all scorers with 20 points in addition to six treys as the Bulldogs swept the season series from the Bobcats. Baer now has a league-leading 77 three-pointers on the year. Thirteen players scored for the Bulldogs, who remained in sole possession of second place in the Conference Carolinas standings.
Barton sophomore Jami Tham-Morrobel (Arlington, Va.) finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds while junior center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) tallied her 18th double-double on the season – 12 points and 10 rebounds – as the Bulldogs raced to a 27-6 lead after the first quarter of play and never looked back.
Lees-McRae – losers of five straight games – was led by Jala Holloman (Goldsboro, N.C.) with 11 points but the Bobcats shot just 28 percent (19-of-68) from the field. Barton also held a 56-30 edge on the boards and blocked six shots on the day.
Barton next travels to Murfreesboro, N.C., to take on Chowan in league contest on Tuesday beginning at 5:30 p.m., while Lees-McRae hosts Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
