WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (13-5-1) suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Limestone (9-6-2) in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament Saturday at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.

The Saints, the fifth seed in the tournament, will face top-seeded Chowan (11-4-1) in the semifinals on Friday at Noon in Murfreesboro, N.C.  The Hawks downed eighth-seeded Lees-McRae (3-11-2) in their quarterfinal contest today.

The lone goal of the match came in the 43rd minute when Sebastian Marx (Erlangen, GERMANY) headed the ball into the net off a corner kick from Henrik Gunther (Gutershloh, GERMANY).  The score was Marx' fourth of the season.

Fourth-seeded Barton lost despite a 12-6 advantage in shots taken while senior goalkeeper Francisco Noguera (Santiago, CHILE) suffered the setback.  Noguera made three stops while Limestone's Clement Anet (Cosse le Vivien, FRANCE) earned the shutout win in goal.  Anet stopped one shot.  Limestone also avenged an overtime loss to Barton earlier in the season.
