Barton men’s soccer dominates Southern Wesleyan, 6-1, on the road

CENTRAL, S.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (9-2-1, 4-2) rolled to a 6-1 road victory over Southern Wesleyan (1-10, 0-6) at Childs Field Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas match.

Barton junior forward Ruben Mancio (Cadiz, SPAIN) and freshman forward David Breitenbach (Manheim, GERMANY) both tallied a goal and an assist as the Bulldogs won their third straight contest.  Mancio now has four goals in his last five matches while freshman forward Jonas Svavarsson (Reykjavik, ICELAND) scored the match-winner in the 17th minute for the visitors.

Five players found the back of the net for the Bulldogs including freshman midfielder Throstur Jonasson (Dalvik, ICELAND) who opened the scoring just under 11 minutes into the contest.  Barton held a 22-9 advantage in shots taken while senior goalkeeper Francisco Noguera (Santiago, CHILE) earned the win after making four saves.

For Southern Wesleyan, Caleb Compton (High Point, N.C.) scored and Will Hughes (Fairport, N.Y.) suffered the loss in goal.  Hughes made five saves for the Warriors, who continue to search for their first league win of the year.

Barton hosts rival Mount Olive on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., at the Electric Supply Company Field while Southern Wesleyan takes on Shaw in Raleigh, N.C., beginning at 4:30 p.m.
