Barton men’s basketball falls on the road to Elizabeth City State, 87-82

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (0-3) suffered an 87-82 setback to Elizabeth City State (2-1) Tuesday evening on the road at the R.L. Vaughan Center.

The Vikings' Justin Faison (Waldorf, Md.) led five players in double figures, finishing with 19 points as Elizabeth City State won its second straight game.  Zaccheus Hobbs (Maysville, N.C.) added 17 points, five rebounds and three assists as Elizabeth City State built a 17-point advantage – 72-55 with 8:22 left in the contest – and held off a late Barton rally for the win.

Barton junior forward Isaiah Reddish (Durham, N.C.) led the visitors with a double-double – 21 points and 10 rebounds – and hit 10-of-11 free throw attempts in the losing effort.  Barton senior guard Michael Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) added 17 points as the Bulldogs cut the margin to 85-82 with 10 seconds left but Elizabeth City State sank a couple of free throws to seal the win.

The Vikings finished 55 percent (33-of-60) from the floor and hit 18-of-21 free throw attempts while forcing the Bulldogs into 16 turnovers.  Junior center Blake Burdack (Melbourne, AUSTRALIA) added 13 points and eight rebounds in the losing effort for Barton.

Barton will look to rebound on Friday against Concord in the 54th annual Pickle Classic on the campus of the University of Mount Olive in Mount Olive, N.C., beginning at 5:00 p.m.  Elizabeth City State hosts Chowan on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
